Our History
In 1922, John H. Seale began Humble Oil Standard in Sumter, SC as a heating oil and gasoline distributor which contracted services with Exxon.
By the late 1940's, Bill Seale, son of J.H. Seale, partnered with his longtime friend, Jimmy Richardson, who had a vast knowledge of accounting. The partnership proved a success and the business grew. Bill decided to incorporate the company in 1979 then sell it to his treasured friend, Jimmy.
In 1981, Jimmy introduced his son, Jay Richardson, to the family business which had grown into a booming heating oil business that owned two transport trucks and six short trucks delivering within a 100-mile radius of Sumter.
Upon Jimmy's well-deserved retirement, Jay continued to operate J.H. Seale and enlisted the help of his son, Trey Richardson, in 2010. With Trey's limitless vision and Jay's substantial knowledge of the industry, the company has grown exponentially since! J.H. Seale and Son has extended far beyond the borders of Sumter County with an expansion that reaches throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. The company has acquired over 45 transportation outfits, 3 short trucks, more than 60 drivers, and operates out of 18 markets.
It is the desire of J.H. Seale and Son to become a trusted leader within the petroleum industry which fuels our passion to bring honesty, integrity, and dedication to our industry. With an overriding commitment to safety, we strive every day through our interactions with our valued customers and our dedicated employees to show our company represents the highest standard in the industry.
